Extra-cultural reviews by synaesthetes, symbolists, and strangers.
Last weekend, at Pianos, we stumbled upon a delightfully salty singer, and couldn’t believe we’re just discovering her now. Sources tell us she’s huge overseas, and is enjoying a sneak attack into NYC’s bluesy underground scene.
Yael Kraus is a solo artist with a three-piece band (guitar, keys, drums, and sometimes guest singing saw). Yael Kraus, independent rock singer, paints charmingly gritty scenes of disillusioned nights in hopeful tones. From ethereal cabaret to saucy, blunt brutality in solitary melodies, her eclectic sound reflects her early years in the Middle East, as well as influences ranging from ’90’s Rock to Bossanova, Trip-hop, Blues and Jazz traditions. The mixture that emerged contributes to her international and unique sound. Nothing ever gets fixed in these worlds, but it’s hard to worry about it as we become enveloped in her charm.
Perched between wishful thinking and clarity, Yael Kraus sings like an angel on a shadow binge…
