Why you should get used to the idea of using social media to promote your art

WHY PROMOTE AT ALL?  WON’T SOMEONE JUST FALL FROM THE SKY AND DISCOVER MY GENIUS?

To Artists and Makers of all kinds, “marketing” and promoting your own work online may seem like a daunting and emotionally distasteful task.  This is a completely natural perspective.  But here are two very simple reasons why it is silly:

1. When you create something beautiful, its beauty spreads when it is shared and perceived.  If you create something amazing, it is not selfish to let the people around you know about it and share in appreciating it.  Not everybody will be moved by every single thing you do. But some people may be deeply moved and inspired.  So be brave, take a chance, and share.  Your friends will be happy to participate in your passion, and you may gather some fans in the process.

2. Does it seem like sharing your work through social media is an infinite and fruitless task?  Maybe you can use a couple of simple tips in an ever-shifting pixellated landscape.   There are many tiny things you can do to put your art “out there” that don’t require too much time or awkwardness.

WHERE TO BEGIN

We will be posting a number of simple social media tips, tricks, and tools that you can use to market your art in the months leading up to to the next major art event.  Whether you are participating in fairs or not, you deserve a chance to have your art perceived.  Our events are all about giving independent artists and craftspeople the opportunities other fairs don’t bother with.  We hope you will take advantage of the tools here, befriend us on whatever social media platform you use most, and join in the conversation.  If you are serious about your art, we’re here to help.  If you have advice to add to any post, feel free to enter it in the comment sections.  And if you have questions about something you’d like us to address in our blog, let us know in the comment area below.  And remember to check back regularly as we continue to add promo tips to the site.

You can view all of them at once HERE.  IN THE SOCIAL MEDIA TIPS AND TRICKS ARCHIVE.

+ If you’re an Instagram user, start by entering our contest.

And here’s a quickie for you:  If you have any talented artist friends, they could also benefit from these tips.  So be a pal and use the sharing buttons below to send them a link to these resources.
